Better late than never! Back from filming The Apparition in Berlin, Ashley Greene got the VIP treatment from her friends in L.A., who threw her a surprise 23rd birthday bash Friday at Trousdale Lounge. Guests included her costar Sebastian Stan, while Russell Brand was partying several tables over.
Thanks to Sofia for the interview:
In Hot Tub Time Machine, starring John Cusack and Craig Robinson, four jaded friends inadvertently travel back to 1986 and get to re-live the days of their prime, perhaps for a more fulfilling future. The comedy, directed by Steve Pink (co-producer and co-writer for Entourage and High Fidelity), is a break from actor Sebastian Stan’s dramatic characters on Gossip Girl and NBC’s Kings as well as upcoming leads in thrillers alongside Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, and Ashley Greene. In honor of the movie’s opening in theaters tomorrow, I chatted with Stan about his role as an eccentric ski patrolman in the new flick and how much Carter Baizen influences his personal style.
—Krista SorianoYou tend to gravitate towards the drama genre. What interested you about Hot Tub Time Machine?
The fact that it was a comedy. I had a lot of fun with a friend making a tape for the audition. I hiked up to his apartment and said, “Let’s just have some fun with this,” and the tape is what led me to the job. We got really physical with it, dressed up in funny costumes. Steve Pink really responded to it and actually used some of our stuff in the movie.Tell me about your role in the movie.
I play Blaine, he’s a ski patrolman and considers himself a patriot. He’s obsessed with movies like Red Dawn and Rambo and secretly sees himself as the Savior of America. He lives in his own world and becomes suspicious when these four characters come on the scene.
You were three years old in 1986.
I was four.Oh. Well what was it like playing a character who was a teen in the ’80s?
I’m a big fan of ’80s movies, and this role gave me a chance to have some fun. I got to be a little bigger with the acting, and some of it was very physical. I’m happy I had the opportunity.
If you could travel back in time, what would be your vehicle and time period of choice?
I’d probably go back to anywhere in the 1920s, the Golden Era. And I’d probably go back in a car, like in Back to the Future. I almost said I’d go back in time on a horse, but then I was like, why would I ride a horse?
You were recently in the running for Captain America.
Congrats to Chris Evans! I was very excited to be part of the group that was selected for Captain America.
Think you would take on a superhero role in the future?
Definitely. But it’s about the material and the people you work with more than anything.
Do you take any fashion cues from Carter Baizen or is your personal style completely different?
It’s very different, absolutely! I definitely like wearing suits and so on, but at the same time, Carter’s wardrobe is really spic-and-span. I like to throw in something dirty every now and then. And probably same with Carter; he does that too since his character likes to think he has money, but he doesn’t.
Big thanks to Sofia for the video!
As we posted yesterday, it was rumoured that Sebastian was in the running for the role of Captain America. Not only is that now confirmed, but he is the favourite! What do you all think? Would you like to see Sebastian in the role? We’d love to hear from you
Massive thanks to Sofia for this article!
According to our Marvelous moles, it’s down to three – Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Channing Tatum.
The Gossip Girl actor, Sebastian Stan, who we are told is the favorite to swing the star-spangled shield next July. The problem is Marvel Films big-cheese Kevin Feige has made it crystal clear (on numerous occasions) Captain America will be played by an American and Stan hails from Romania. But apparently he’s done a solid enough job in his screen-tests to make the key decision-makers give second thoughts to that stance.
That is where we stand as of this moment on Captain America. With production is expected to start this coming summer in London, the final decision must be made soon
Would love to know what everyone thinks, can you envision Sebastian as the next Captain America?
Marvel Studios’ search continues for the perfect actor to don the red, white, and blue suit and spread American ideals in the big-screen adaptation of Captain America. Today’s rumor mill throws G.I. Joe’s Channing Tatum into a mix of 20-something-year-olds that include the known, Ryan Phillippe, Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans; the semi-known, Tron’s Garrett Hedlund (UPDATE: We’re now hearing that Garrett is no longer in the running), Cloverfield’s Mike Vogel, Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan; and the unknown, Young and the Restless’s Wilson Bethel. The studio held lengthy screen tests last weekend for at least four of those actors (Hedlund has not yet screen-tested, though sources believe he is the studio’s first choice), and Marvel is expected to have a decision soon.
In the meantime, we’ve got a few plot details to share. Sources tell EW that Captain America, which is set to begin filming in June for a release next summer, will be shot on location in London as the Joe Johnston-helmed movie will feature a stylized 1940s WWII backdrop. And while Cap won’t be fighting Hitler as he did in the very first Captain America comic book, he will battle Red Skull, Hitler’s right-hand man.
Probably the biggest challenge with Marvel’s casting challenge is not the Captain America movie, but what comes next. Marvel’s plans include an Avengers film that will bow in summer 2012. And anyone familiar with Marvel lore knows that Captain America is a father figure to the rest of the Avengers. That means Marvel’s casting choice for Cap must be someone who can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury, and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, to name a few. “They’re casting two franchises here,” said a source close to the production. “This is no easy feat.”
Below is mention of Sebastian in Hot Tub Time Machine – which will be released on March 26 – it offers some new/extra info about Sebastian’s role. The full review can be found at Yes/No Films. Thanks to Sofia for link!
The script was actually well-written, and there were a few cameos too—Chevy Chase as the mysterious hot tub electrician, who seems to appear and disappear frequently, and Sebastian Stan (TV’s “Gossip Girl”) as a hotshot ski patrol teenager who seems to have it out for Corddry’s character. Lizzy Caplan (“Mean Girls”) also has a small part as one of Cusack’s love interests.
